Gold Jewelry Size Guide: Hoops, Necklaces & Lockets

A close-up photograph shows the details. Measurements help you understand how a piece might fit into your life. Before choosing gold earrings, a necklace or a locket, compare the listed dimensions with jewelry you already enjoy wearing.

Hoop earrings: compare diameter and tube width

Diameter describes the size of the hoop; tube width describes how thick the hoop looks. They answer different questions. Compare both measurements with a pair you own, and check the closure and product photographs before choosing.

In our 4 × 35 mm polished tube hoops, 35 mm is the listed hoop dimension and 4 mm is the tube width. The earrings are 14K yellow gold and are sold as a pair. Product images are enlarged and are not a life-size guide.

Necklaces: measure a length you already like

Lay a necklace you own straight beside a ruler and compare its full length with the product listing. Notice where it sits when you wear it with the neckline you have in mind. The same necklace length can sit differently on different people.

A layered design needs a second look: the strands form one silhouette, so a single listed length does not describe where every strand will sit. This triple-strand 14K yellow gold necklace is listed at 19.5 inches. View its photographs and product video to see the arrangement; ask us if you need the individual strand measurements.

Lockets: check the pendant and the chain separately

For a locket, consider its face, depth and the bail that connects it to a chain. Ask whether a listed measurement includes the bail. A chain clasp must also fit through the bail, so matching a chain requires more than choosing a length.

Our polished domed round 14K yellow gold locket is listed as 16 mm. The chain is sold separately. The exterior measurement is not a photo-insert measurement; contact us before preparing an insert or choosing a chain for this piece.

Choosing a gift

Start with the recipient's existing jewelry: a hoop diameter they wear, a necklace length they reach for, or a preference for a small pendant. If you are unsure, send us the product link and the measurements you are comparing. We can help you identify which details need checking.
